History of Llangain Memorial Hall
Llangain and District Memorial Hall was built in 1963 at a cost of £7,000 (which in today’s money equates to £150,000) on land donated By Mr. Tom Roberts of Penycoed, and officially opened on Friday 3 April 1964.
Substantial expenditure is now required to ensure a facility that meets the needs of a changing and expanding community for another 60 years and more.
The Memorial Hall
The unveiling of the memorial plaque containing the names of those who died in both World Wars was performed by Mrs May Davies, sister to Lce-Cpl Willie Davies of Green Castle who died of wounds received 23 March, 1918, aged 20.
The building was extended and refurbished in the late 1990s to include modest access for the less abled thanks to a grant from the National Lotteries Charity Board and other benefactors. Grant assistance was also obtained to build a store extension and sound and lighting systems.
